Welcome to the autism section of the Cognifit blog. This is an educational space where you will find a wealth of information all about Autism Spectrum Disorder.

If your child shows symptoms of autism or has received a diagnosis it can be confusing and worrying. You will want to learn all you can about the condition and how to care for a child with unique needs.

Our goal is to help you understand what autism is, and the best ways to support your autistic child or family member.

What is autism?

Autism is a developmental disorder which involves trouble communicating, socializing and unusual restrictive or repetitive behaviors. Symptoms usually appear in early childhood and continue throughout adulthood.

There is no cure for autism. Although it is not a disease, it often causes difficulties in daily life. Autistic people struggle to fit in with their peers and require extra support to make their way in the world. It is a spectrum disorder, which means that it ranges from mild to severe and affects people in very different ways.

However, with the right care and support, people with autism can live fulfilling and happy lives.

What we cover in the blog

In these articles, we explore the nature of autism to help you understand the different types of the condition. We discuss how it can affect boys and girls differently, and how to distinguish autism from similar conditions.

You’ll learn about the classic signs and symptoms of autism, as well as how to deal with less common symptoms like echolalia, selective mutism, eating problems and insomnia.

We investigate the latest discoveries, research, and treatments. For example, many unconventional therapies can be highly beneficial, such as art therapy, animal therapy, and sensory integration therapy.

Additionally, we offer advice on ways to communicate with an autistic person, how to calm an autistic child during a tantrum, and fun activities and toys that autistic children will love.
