MindFit – Meditation and Sleep: Improving Health and wellbeing with mindfulness

As CogniFit launches its sleeping and meditation app, we are going to dive right in and go on a whirlwind tour. So get comfortable… and we’ll begin.

The first thing you notice is that there is a ton of options to choose from; you get a little video explaining each section, and then it’s a question of diving in where you feel like. So, let’s say you decide to go for the section called “sleep messaging” first. You ARE kinda sleepy after all. Lets see if we can improve the quality of your sleep together for a better nights rest and a happier, healthier you.

Sleep Messaging

Lot’s of people these days and drifting off to sleep with comforting sounds and positive affirmations. Sleep Messaging is nice because you get all that with a formal countdown into compete relaxation, which REALLY HELPS. Pop on your sleeping headphones (Don’t wear ordinary ones in bed – You might hurt yourself and you’ll definitely break your headphones) or play it through a speaker at a low volume.

With titles like “absolute Confidence in Yourself” and “A Zen State of Mind”, you might be able to calm that chattering worrying mind of yours and drift off, or you might just go for the “Sleep in Peace All Night Long”. I actually sent “Sleep in Peace All Night Long” to a friend who said he was a rough sleeper. I asked him what he thought of it and he replied “I don’t know. I fell asleep right in the middle of it.” and then he laughed at the absurdity of what he had said.


Here, you find pure relaxation and positive suggestions. A soft and dream-like voice floats you into a world of convoluted stories with a positive message. The titles “Non-Reactivity Session” and “The Way of the Wise” might tempt you, but the title “Let the Rain Wash away Tension and Negativity” will appeal to anyone who knows what stress is. To get to the Dreamscape section download the MindFit app on the Apple app store or at Google Play Mindfit App. Once installed you will see the third tab at the bottom labeled “Dreamscape.” Relax and enjoy.

Guided Mindfulness

First comes the relaxation and the countdown, then come the visualizations and affirmations. Nothing short of hypnotic and dreamy, this stuff is packed with suggestions and messages from “Assertiveness”, “Dropping Resentment” and “Healthy Body and Mind” to “Develop Perfect Study Habits”. This is the first level in which you are invited to direct your attention specifically, and in each session, you are invited to contemplate, visualise and make affirmations to improve your life .


I don’t think I need to mention the benefits of meditation, but here are some of my favourites:

  • Getting to know the way your mind works
  • It’s nice

Doctors and Psychologists around the world have only caught on to this relatively recently, despite being a age old practice. It’s so powerful for getting to know yourself and being the best person you can. This app offers TONS of stuff here. There’s a beginners course in meditation and a whole slew of techniques to try. This is such a great habit to get into, I can’t even begin to tell you. Well, some of the material is guided to help you along the way, while lot’s of stuff leaves you to meditate with only the most minimal of interventions from the guide.
